Tatted Love: Are Tattoos Still Cool?

The tat.
Nothing (not hair, not clothes) in the past 15 years has been more an expression of individuality than the tattoo.
If you look in old school yearbooks in the 1970s and 1980s you'd be hardpressed to find an expressive tattoo outside the small ink spot or initials. But about the early 1990s, the tattoo has enjoyed a large resurgence.
The origin of the word tattoo is from the Samoan word tatau, meaning "open wound." And it's named for good reason, for a tattoo is an insertion of ink into a layer of skin. Eurasians are said to have been the first to use tattoos as symbols of kinship, rites of passage and cultural identification.
But today? People rock tats because they look cool.
But will they forever? Sagging, wrinkled tattoos will be the norm in as few as 10 years as the generation that first got them in the 1990s gets up in age. What do you think? Cool or no?

I have several tattoos and when they are true works of art, they are pretty amazing. There is a tattoo shop out here in Atlanta called The City of Ink and they have some of the most talented tattoo ARTISTS I've seen in ALL my life! I won't go anywhere else to get inked....EVERYONE in there is THAT good.
January 7, 2009 at 9:44 AMThere are a lot of people who do them for the "cool" purpose but there are some who do it for the love of art AND because there is some meaning attached to the artwork. If your tattoo is done right though, the artwork will last forever and look just as good as the day you got it...just gotta make sure you go to the right person ;)
Here's a link to the tattoo artist's blog I let do my cover-ups:

*jotting down City Of Ink on Walker St...* Okay, now to answer the question. I think it depends on the placement and the content of the tattoo. It also depends on the owner of the tat. I've seen some women with perfectly placed tats that accentuate their curves or highlights a really nice feature and it's really sexy. I've also seen some that are huge, in a random spot and look a hot ass mess. It really just depends. But i love them and I have four, contemplating my 5th.
