Are you Creole, or 'Creole'?
In beautiful black women, In creoles, In haiti, In louisiana creolesTuesday, September 15, 2009
When people talk about 'Creole-this and Creole that, exactly which one are we referring to: There are two categories in the African-American community.
In Haiti, there's a group of people of African descent, distinct in their heritage and even their culture (heavily French). The physical traits of their hair consist of variant degrees of wavy, curly locks. There religion is a hodge podge of Catholicism and ritualistic Africanism. They're called Creoles.
In Louisiana, there's a group of African-American people, distinct in their heritage and even their culture (heavily French) The physical traits of their hair consist of variant degrees of wavy, curly locks. There religion is a hodge podge of Catholicism and ritualistic Africanism. Most of them are fair-skinned, and some even have an accent.
They're called Creoles.
If we go back further, the definition of Creole was actually a European person born in the West Indies (how you like dem apples?).
Confused, yet?
It gets deeper but I don't want to get any deeper.

I've heard so many people call themselves Creole not even knowing the background of that word. Some of those SAME people walk around with this pro-Black attitude, calling themselves Creole, but not even knowing that the name was given to lighter skin Black people to distinguish them from the darker Blacks. I mean, if that's your heritage than cool but some Black people REALLY be breaking their necks to claim it and I think it's sad...

September 17, 2009 at 9:58 AMYou got it all wrong..I think you need to do a bit more reading on the subject...First of All , the Original Creoles Were the off springs of the first born African Slaves in the New World..Thus called Creoles which is Portugese means to Create ...You see the French and Spanish came as conquerer's and did not bring Women with them thus the Mix...Creole..Further more "Creole" designates Culture ..In America , especially in Louisiana it means People of Color that have ties to Louisiana and Who also shares a Creole Culture...Creoles are World wide and come from Countries throughout the New World and the Islands off the East and West coast of Africa..Please stop making Us Creoles appear to be fictional People without a Culture... It's a bit more involved then You think and stop believing all those White Orientated Dictionaries that still continue to take Credit for everything
