Where is Jill Marie Jones?

Friday, March 26, 2010

Never has a supporting character been as missed as Toni Childs was on the hit sitcom "Girlfriends" when she abruptly left the show over contractual reasons. In a lot of ways actress Jill Marie Jones did a famous disappearing act in real life, too.
The Texas native's projects have been few and far between since leaving the show (same with other cast members such as Golden Brooks, etc.) at the height of its popularity in 2006. Jones, understandably, felt she had bigger fish to fry, larger walls to climb. The only problem is, it hasn't happened yet. Even Tracee Ellis Ross has resurfaced albeit haltingly, but Jones has been especially incognito.
As to why she left "Girlfriends," she reportedly said: "I left because I wanted to do movies. My contract was up after my sixth season and people forget that just like the network can choose whether or not to renew your contract, I can also choose and evaluate whether or not I want to come back."
She went on to star in "Major Movie Star" with Jessica Simpson, but hasn't score a major project since then.
She did have a lead in 2007's "Redrum" (below), but as far when she'll return to the big screen or small screen, we -- like all of you -- are hoping for the best.

Golden Brooks leaves 'Girlfriends' in rearview

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Seems like Golden Brooks, the fast-talking mama known on the now-defunct TV sitcom "Girlfriends" will be the first actress out of the close-knit camp to score a major acting role since the show's demise last year.
Brooks is set to play in the film "Polish Bar," which is reportedly in post-production, barring any major hitches.
It's not like Brooks, from San Francisco, has been exactly chilling.
She and her beau D.B. Woodside are expecting a baby anytime now, which will certainly change the game for the actress.
Before she becomes a full-time Mom, Brooks got some work in on "Polish Bar," and also took a turn at urban horror in the flick "My Place in the Horror," which is apparently about a family barbecue that turns into a blood orgy. Eh, not exactly, the same fan base as "Girlfriends," but hey it is a recession.

Do You Miss Your Partner in Crime?

Friday, August 28, 2009

Remember those days in high school when it was you and your BFF against the world? Life was a lot simpler back then; responsibilities have a way of melting the sheen off a person, you know? But back in the day you could afford to mess up, to act a fool, and it wasn't a fatal mistake.
You and your girl were trump tight; on some Thelma and Louise type stuff.
Face it, the streets have always been bad, but it's just that now they're deadly.
As you grow older, relationships change, people too, but that doesn't throw shade on what was. This post is about the past. Not what could have been. What was.

What next for Tracee Ellis Ross?

Sunday, August 16, 2009

Tracee Ellis Ross aka "Joan Clayton," has been chilling in the cut since the cancellation of the popular "Girlfriends" show.
What her next move will be is anybody's guess, but girlfriend has mad skills in diverse areas. The Brown University graduate (class of '94) acted extensively in plays before landing gigs as a model and contributing fashion editor to magazines.
Her big break on screen came as she was cast for a number of small movies, including "Hanging Up" with Diane Keaton. She was introduced to the MTV set on "Lyricists Lounge" a hip-hop variety show that was before its time.
The stint on "Girlfriends" showed that Tracee can be a leading lady, as well as comedic actor. But we want to see more of her musical capabilities.
She's an artist. We know it.
We're sure that when she's ready to take on her next project, it'll be a perfect fit.

Check Tracee out on Lyricists Lounge:

Do You tell your girl EVERYTHING?

Tuesday, July 21, 2009

Friends are hard to find, and harder to keep, says an old proverb. But it's especially true in these days of backbiting, double crossing, and Hatorade.
Our close associates are a part of us: They know us and share common experiences that draw us closer to them. But is there a limit?
Does your BBF know all your business?
Many women will tell their friends how their man likes it in bed and his fave position and all that, oblivious to the fact that such knowledge may breed covetousness or straight jealousy.
In this day and age of the Internet, people know enough about you just by seeing a username or bio. To those people that you actually know, are you inclined to keep no secrets?

The Visible Lover Phenomenon: Hearting Amber Rose

Thursday, June 18, 2009

You'd be hard-pressed to find a celebrity hotter than Amber Rose right now.
Usher, yeah, he's pretty hot right now, due to his filing for divorce, but that's falling by the wayside.
RiRi? She's falling back down to normalcy now, a 6 on our 10-point attention barometer.
Madonna? Old news?
But Amber Rose, famous for ... exactly what again? I mean what did she have something, anything going on that would thrust her into the national spotlight?
Quite like this?
(Crickets)
Right, that's the point. I mean, we heart her with her buzzcut and all. But she's simply the Visible Lover of Kanye West, the most highly public, attention-loving, grandoise entertainer alive today.

Why is Amber Rose famous? Call it the V.L.P: Visible Lover Phenomenon.
People just love to know who celebrities are sleeping with.
There have been other VLPs: Stedman Graham comes to mind; Pharrell used to sport "Vashtie" everywhere he went a few years ago. But England follows them way more than the States.
But celebrities no doubt should be able to do what they want, but lovers should also be able to decide if they want to be apart of the VLP as well.
In the NBA, many don't.
But VLP is a blessing and curse, just ask other celebrities.
The only thing they have in the end ... is a VH1 reality show.

The More BFFs = More Money

Monday, June 15, 2009

According to a recent study, what's in your bank account is directly related to how many friends you have.
(No, it doesn't mean having one BFF means you have $1).
The study, conducted over 35 years among 10,000 students in the United States, suggests the wealthiest people are those that had the most friends at school. Each subsequent schoolfriend added 2% to the salary.
By "friend" it doesn't mean how many people you hang out with, but rather the number of people in your social circle. This is where Facebook and Myspace come into play: Yep, could be the in the 100s.
If you've got a gang of friends on social networking sites then technically you could be on your way to a whole lot of moolah!
