I know of two people who are gearing up for big weddings amidst the worst economic times any of us can remember. One of the wedding will cost upward of $20,000 and that doesn't include the honeymoon. This is the one who's fiance just got laid off. The other one, I hear, may skip out on the reception because of the high cost. An expensive wedding these days. Is it worth it? Or do we even have a right to advise someone how they should get married?

I don't think anyone has a RIGHT to advise someone as to how they should get married. That is a special day for the bride and groom and if they can afford to go all out, that's their business. As far as the recession....these people are adults and know what is going on. Personally, if I was engaged and my fiancee was laid off, $20,000 would be the farthest thing from my mind in regards to my nuptials. I'd be holding on to it in case my azz got laid off too LOL

If someone wants to make that bad decision, let them. They know better...
Everyone's situation is different... Some have saved up for their special day and some haven't. I feel it is their business, but however I do think that destination weddings should be given second thoughts during these tough times.
