Jay-Z, Will and Jada back 'Fela' musical

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

Big hip-hop stars Jay-Z and Will Smith and wifey Jada Pinkett-Smith are throwing their weight behind black Broadway musical "Fela" with the announcement that the trio will be producers. The "Fela" blog has added a "Shaun 'Jay-Z' Carter and Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith present" tag to the web site's banner.
The play, a homage to Nigerian music artist Fela Kuti, will debut next week in New York and is sure to bring out the celebrities now that two of the most recognizable names in show business have joined in.

Jada: 'Marriage has to be a place of safety'

Monday, June 22, 2009

Jada Pinkett-Smith has some comtemplative words in the latest issue of Redbook (July issue).
On relationships: “There’s a certain amount of safety you have to create for someone to feel like they can be open to you… That’s something we forget in marriages and relationships - they have to be places of safety, because they’re where you are most vulnerable. If you’re not allowed to be safe, I don’t know if you can reach the depths of connection that support commitment. You can be committed to somebody because of ego: ‘I said I was going to be with this joker for the rest of my life, so I’m just going to do it.’ Or you can be committed because you have a deeply rooted connection.”
Interesting.

"Seven Pounds" Breaks Will's Money Streak

Monday, February 9, 2009

Will Smith was the king of the box office this decade, but while the world was watching the Super Bowl and wondering who Etta James was, a historic feat came to the end: Will Smith's streak of eight straight movies breaking the $100 million mark is over, done, history, see-ya, audi-5.
"Seven Pounds," a movie that even I can't tell you how it was, can't seem to break over the $70 million mark. This is after paying Smith out of the whazoo, and bringing aboard Rosario Dawson, whom he worked with in "Men in Black II". All eight of his films, including the terrible "Wild Wild West" opened at No. 1 at the box office, but not "Seven Pounds" (to be fair, "Ali" and "The Legend of Bagger Vance" didn't crack the $1M mark either.). But what was it? Was it Smith? Was it Rosario?
