Can Kandi Burruss Go On?

Sunday, October 4, 2009

Street violence has hit the small screen with the weekend death of Kandi Burruss's ex-fiance Ashley "A.J." Jewell at an Atlanta strip club. A.J. reportedly died after being bashed in the head with a bottle outside a club he was buying. A club employee is being held by police.
With all the sad news, can Kandi go on?
Her first season on the show, Kandi didn't quite fit in -- in a refreshing way -- with the housewife stereotype. Sure, she had the money, and even the fame, but she lacked the obnoxious attitude, the materialistic selfishness that made co-stars like NeNe Leakes and Sheree Whitfield such gossip magnets.
She wasn't exactly good TV.
Like DeShawn Snow, Kandi was a regular chick. She did however have the drama in her life, most of it emanating from her courtship of A.J., the father of six children.
Her mother was deadset against the wedding, and now it will never be.
What people don't know is that Kandi also just lost a loved one, a dear uncle, a week ago, and was already going through a tough time.
Word is that the Bravo people are scrambling with how to deal with A.J.'s death, especially since the reunion show is set to tape next week.
Should they cut him out of the upcoming episodes? Should they re-edit them to reflect his death?
Whatever they do, Kandi will no doubt be cast as a sympathetic character, especially with her disagreements with NeNe coming to a head now.
Somehow the other "Housewives" franchises -- in New York and Orange County, etc. -- had managed to avoid real-life street tragedy, although sickness did manifest itself
but in Atlanta, it came to fruition. Of all places, Atlanta.
Will the show go on? No doubt it will, but will it have a black cloud?

She's Used to Go by 'Kandi Girl'

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Yhen Kandi Burruss first stepped out on the scene she used to go by Kandi Girl. Briefly. Gathered by Jermaine Dupri in 1990, the girl group, Excape quickly took over the Atlanta music scne. Their debut album "Humming Comin' At Cha," was an ode to JD's love for West Coast music at the time (He'd soon model Da Brat as a female Snoop Dogg). Burruss, who was in 11th grade when Excape's first album was released, quickly became known as "the cute one" in the group.
The group disbanded in 1998 after two more albums, but the initial success they enjoyed took its toll. Kandi is quoted as saying that the girls barely spoke to each other after the group ended. They all went their separate ways with most notably Tameka "Tiny" Cottle and Burruss becoming pregnant and raising kids.
Fast forward to 2009 and Kandi is enjoying the kind of marketing and promotion TV can bring with her success as a cast member of "The Real Housewives of Atlanta". In the aftermath of the death of Burruss's former fiance A.J. Jewell, many questions surround the singer-producer and composer.
But word is that Kandi is in the midst of recording a solo album. From the adversity, Kandi Girl is set to rise again.
