NFL player: We 'import' women from FB, Myspace

Thursday, May 20, 2010

NFL player Dwayne Bowe has given the game away for NFL players everywhere. He recently told ESPN Magazine that players jump from hotel to hotel room. What's in the rooms? Women. Lots of them.
Bowe said having a groupie seek you out is played out. Now, the players coordinate through Facebook, Myspace and Twitter and arrange for the women to already be in the room.
"My rookie year, we were playing in San Diego," Bowe says. "You hear stories about groupies hanging out in hotel lobbies, but some of my teammates had it set up so there was a girl in every room. The older guys get on MySpace and Facebook a week before we go to a city; when a pretty one writes back, they arrange to fly her in three or four days in advance. They call it importing."
Former coach Herm Edwards, who coached Kansas City three years ago, basically said Bowe is going to get jumped on.
"That's on Dwayne," Herm said. "I've always said that generally what happens in the locker room or on the field or around the players, it stays there."
Not no more.

Nicki Minaj: From Myspace to Femme Phenom

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

At LaGuardia High School in New York, Onika Maraj was as silly as silly puddy. You can tell from the daffy-duck faces she makes even now. But when did the femme fatale known as Nicki Minaj emerge on the hip-hop scene?
In 2002, a group of eUuniverse employees created Myspace. In two short years, the site graduated to a music reservoir for up-and-coming and unsigned acts to show their work. In 2004, hundreds of artists had built pages with free music for the masses. Like the teenage rap sensation Soulja Boy before her, Nicki Minaj is originally a Myspace rapper.
Some of her early songs pull from the grit and grind of her upbringing in New York City.
She was discovered by Dirty Money CEO Fendi. Lil Wayne personally contacted her, and the rest, as they say is Barbie history.
Flash forward to 2010: The little girl from a troubled home is one of the top rappers in hip-hop and poised to be the queen. And there's still no album, and no tentative title or release date. Yet, she's appeared in more than 14 songs for other people.
Her album promises to be one of the most anticipated rap events of the year. And that's a long way from the humble beginnings of LaGuardia.

Rise of the camera-phone photographer

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Used to be when you wanted to "make a picture" (as they say down South) you had to send it in to be developed into a Space Station 13-type pod at the Kodak store or local pharmacy. That is, if you didn't have your own developing room, a pitch-black room illuminated with a scary red light and consumed with the smell of old bread and skunk pee.
But that's what it took to be a photographer, an art form that paid off big time in the form of magazines, posters and photo albums.
But with the rise of the do-it-all camera, photography is being set back a 100 years. Not only are people not interested in the "science" and "art" of photo-taking (quick, what does aperture mean?) but people are snapping photos with the phone in them.
It's become so common place that the art of photography as we know it is slowly dying. Curse you, Internet!

Social Web site + Your Nudity = No Job4U

Monday, January 19, 2009

Social networking has taken the Web by storm in the past 2 - 3 years: People have acquired "Friends" by the thousands, conversations have been enjoyed by diverse people across the globe and ... people - normally reserved shy people - are putting rude pics, nude pics all up on the Web for the world to see.
Is that smart?
Last year it was reported that companies have their recruiters scouring the Web to make sure potential candidates haven't played themselves on the Web. But guess what: So many have.
So many people (not to mention malicious pranksters)have put nude shots of themselves on the Net that it's like they don't want to ever get a job. And to think, we're in a recession-depression.
Would you do it?
Could you do it?

BEWARE: 'Koobface' is out there

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Koobface.
That's the name of the virus that is ravaging Facebook as we speak. It infects by asking you to download a Youtube video by updating your Adobe Flash Player.
Don't do it.
According to the New York Times, once a computer has become infected with the Koobface worm, it spams the friends belonging to the owner of the computer by leaving comments on their profiles. Those comments appear to come from the infected user, saying things like "Are you sure this is your first acting experience?", "is it u there?", "impressive. i'm sure it's you on this video", "How can anyone get so busted by a spy camera?" and "You're the whole show! i'm admired with you."
It's amazing how many emails we get with bad English and we still open them. Anyway, social networking sites such as Bebo and blackplanet are being hit as well. There's also a black celebrity web site (that shall go nameless) that has a particularly nasty bug. So, be careful.
