Will Becky/Amy/Ashley Do a Bradley?

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Today, millions of European Americans will be asked to do what all other nonwhite voters of the United States have done since they had the right to: Vote outside their race. The selling of the concept has been so pretentious over the past 6 months that pontiffs and experts have basically given up on race not being a factor; instead they say that the Bradley Effect, will the overriding stimulus to either put Barack Obama in the White House or coincidentally send the first woman vice president to Washington. The Bradley theory - which analysts put at around 10 percent for this race - says that white voters tend to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a black candidate, and yet, on election day, vote for his white opponent. The question, can red-blooded, blue-eyed, blonde-haired Americans send a person of color to the White House, has been dreamed up since the very beginning of the office. It has been immediately dismissed as pure fairy tale just as long. But can they do it? Can they lick the lollipop so unlike any other candy they've had before? Or will they, at the last fateful second, retreat back into sameness, the familiar taste of what they know?

On Nov. 4, the Red Pill or the Blue Pill?

Saturday, November 1, 2008

Voters are scheduled to go to the polls all day on Nov. 4 to elect the 44th president of the United States. Barack Obama, the first person of color to be nominated, and war veteran John McCain.
Obama has run on a broad platform of "change".
McCain has an increased fascination with plumbers.
Come Nov. 4, which will it be: the blue pill, or the red one? The terms, red state and blue state have come to mean the states that vote either Republican or Democrat. The term was first used by the late journalist Tim Russert, according to the Washington Post. A blue state leans toward the Democratic ticket; a red state leans toward the Republican ticket.
In the movie, "The Matrix" lead character Neo was offered a choice of the blue or red pill by patriarch, Morpheus. The red pill would answer the question "what is the Matrix?" (by removing him from it and subjecting him to the reality unbeheld) and the blue pill would be for life to carry on as before. As Neo reaches for the red pill Morpheus warns Neo "Remember, all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more."
Do any of these candidates, deal in truth?
The pill analogy is quite appropriate, when you consider neither candidate can really do anything about social ills, inflation, crime, etc. They don't deal in preventative measures, only treatment of those ills i.e. medicine aka pills.

PhotoPop: Obama as Hot Stud

Wednesday, October 29, 2008

Arguably the biggest story of the year has been the rise of Barack Obama. He's been seen as a terrorist, savior of a people, a Muslim, a Christian, a mulatto, a black man, a white man, a racist, a fascist, a socialist, a stud, a hunk. We'd figure we'd do some Photoshop to really see what he'd look like as a 19-year-old stud. Voila. What's that, ladies? Yes, you can-can?

The Obamas: A PDA Unlike We've Seen

Sunday, October 5, 2008

The Obamas are photogenic, telegenic, and even eccentric, in all the right ways.
They hug each other, kiss each other, dance with each other in way that makes marriage look cool and fun. Is this a charade, or are they that much into each other? We've seen ex-President Clinton and ex-Vice President Gore bend their wives backward and plant sloppy ones, but not the constant attendances that Barack does to Michelle. This is new.

I recently had a girl tell me that "they're playing to the cameras," about it all: the googoo eyes, the reassuring touches. True enough, the media has managed to catch some awful good shots of the Obamas just being - well, for lack of a better word, loving. Is anything wrong with that?
