Does Obama have a 'dark' side?

Sunday, May 16, 2010

At varying times during the debate over health care, and even while he was still running for office, President Obama has been depicted or called some of the most crazy names one can imagine.
From the anti-christ, to Satan himself, Obama has been labeled every single unsavory character in mankind's history. And the thing is, many of the name-callers have been people you'd expect better from: Doctors, lawyers, politicians, truck drivers, soldiers, teachers, etc.
Is there a ring of truth to any of this? I mean, this stuff can get pretty scary.
We all pretty much conceded that Bush I & II were in cahoots with Big Oil, and the bankers, but ...
Does Obama indeed have a "dark" side?
Congressmen labeled the health care reform as Socialist (even calling him and liar). There are many Youtube videos out there explaining how Obama has the number of the beast, or better yet, that he does in fact have the number (on his hand).
Is it true? About as true as him being a Muslim and being born out of the country.
But what would make a person resort to such elementary name-calling?
And if the shoe were on the other foot, would all this vitriol exist?
One has but to wonder how all this chaos and confusion came into play to begin with.

Malia and Sasha's New Adventure

Saturday, November 8, 2008

"I think my most excitement about it is that I get to redecorate my room," said Sasha, the eldest Obama girl, when asked this summer how cool it would be to live in the White House. "I enjoy decorating. So I get to get this whole new room and do whatever I want!" she said. That cool dream is about to become reality.
As the world focuses its eyes on the first black president-elect of the United States, a good number of Americans will sit back and take in the cute, simple joy of the new First Daughters: Malia and Sasha.
A critical eye should be dimmed in this case the girls are still elementary school-age, but soon the media scrutiny will beckon.
To be true there have been children in the White House before, namely John F. Kennedy Jr. But everyone knows this will be diferent. It'll take 2 terms before the Obama girls can actually look and feel like grown women: In 2016, Sasha will be 18. Will they turn out like the daughters of Joe "Reverend Run" Simmons? Will they pick up tendencies of the Hilton girls?

Can Obama Help These People?

Wednesday, November 5, 2008

There is a segment of America that Barack Obama (or any candidate) didn't necessarily reach out to to, absent from the debates, far away from the television cameras, devoid of Internet access, but just as relevant: the White Poor.
Sarah Palin considered her base to be working class, soccer mom and rifle-toting: That's not the White Poor. The White Poor is an invisible group to the American political landscape. They're in the hood, they've been there; you haven't. Public schools are a rite of passage; they have interracial babies, smoke Newports and are just trying to get by. Can Obama, who preached a message of inclusion and change, reach these people? Does he want to.

Nov. 4, 2008: Telling Image

I found this New York Times photo especially telling: As the tallies are read Tuesday night, McCain-Palin supporters mill around in shock - save for one woman who is a dead ringer for Sarah Palin.

Will Becky/Amy/Ashley Do a Bradley?

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

Today, millions of European Americans will be asked to do what all other nonwhite voters of the United States have done since they had the right to: Vote outside their race. The selling of the concept has been so pretentious over the past 6 months that pontiffs and experts have basically given up on race not being a factor; instead they say that the Bradley Effect, will the overriding stimulus to either put Barack Obama in the White House or coincidentally send the first woman vice president to Washington. The Bradley theory - which analysts put at around 10 percent for this race - says that white voters tend to tell pollsters that they are undecided or likely to vote for a black candidate, and yet, on election day, vote for his white opponent. The question, can red-blooded, blue-eyed, blonde-haired Americans send a person of color to the White House, has been dreamed up since the very beginning of the office. It has been immediately dismissed as pure fairy tale just as long. But can they do it? Can they lick the lollipop so unlike any other candy they've had before? Or will they, at the last fateful second, retreat back into sameness, the familiar taste of what they know?
