Does Obama have a 'dark' side?

Sunday, May 16, 2010

At varying times during the debate over health care, and even while he was still running for office, President Obama has been depicted or called some of the most crazy names one can imagine.
From the anti-christ, to Satan himself, Obama has been labeled every single unsavory character in mankind's history. And the thing is, many of the name-callers have been people you'd expect better from: Doctors, lawyers, politicians, truck drivers, soldiers, teachers, etc.
Is there a ring of truth to any of this? I mean, this stuff can get pretty scary.
We all pretty much conceded that Bush I & II were in cahoots with Big Oil, and the bankers, but ...
Does Obama indeed have a "dark" side?
Congressmen labeled the health care reform as Socialist (even calling him and liar). There are many Youtube videos out there explaining how Obama has the number of the beast, or better yet, that he does in fact have the number (on his hand).
Is it true? About as true as him being a Muslim and being born out of the country.
But what would make a person resort to such elementary name-calling?
And if the shoe were on the other foot, would all this vitriol exist?
One has but to wonder how all this chaos and confusion came into play to begin with.

Who's the Most Hated Black Man in America?

Friday, March 5, 2010

Just the thought of him makes some people recoil in anger. His smile is one that calls to mind utter distrust and seething hate. He is, quite easily, the MHBMA, Most Hated Black Man in America.
Well, who?
If there was a poll, some would say Barack Hussein Obama (they won't let that 'Hussein' part go). Some would say Tiger Woods. Others would say, Al Sharpton, or how about Van Jones? Michael Steele, or even Chris Brown. But I think the two leading vote-getters would be Tiger and Obama. Why?
Well, let's just say Tiger has unearthed the dormant disgust of a nation sick of celebrity-worship and entitled athletes. Plus, he's recent cheating prowess is, well, unmatched.
Obama on the other hand, is, well, how can we say it -- remember in "New Jack City" when Nino Brown told G-Money to "sit your $5 butt down before I make change?" -- yeah, something about change.
It's deep, too. You know there are still people out there that think Obama is an immigrant? Fox News is contagious, people.

What if the Obamas were ghetto?

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Let's be honest: When you first first heard about Barack Obama, you had no idea the substance of the man. You didn't know he had come out of Harvard or Harlem. You didn't know if he was a lawyer or a layman. You didn't know that his wife was a professional executive in Chicago, rather than a stay at home mom with two tween daughters.
Now, when you found out that stuff out, regardless of the man's speaking ability and likeability, did it make a difference?
Because, if it did, what if the Obamas were hood? What if they were ghetto? Would you still support them? Would you still think they are the epitome of easy style?
What if Obama had a baby mama and did a short bid in college? Would it matter?
Now ask yourself, why?

Poll: Everybody Likes Michelle

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Poll numbers schmoll numbers: Barack may be falling harder than a rock, but people think the world of Michelle, according to a new poll in the L.A. Times. That means former First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush evidently didn't have that twinkle in the eye that 'Chelle has displayed.
Sure, there has been hate, but Michelle has collectively given the naysayers the gas face -- and looked good in doing it.
How was she maintained such a positive image? She's simply remained herself, experts say. Meanwhile her husband has castigated Harvard cops for acting "stupidly," assailed Fox News and even called Kanye West "a jackass". Well, two outta three aint bad.

Best of 09: If all men are dogs, can Barack be trusted?

Monday, December 28, 2009

Tiger Woods. Steve McNair. Eliot Spitzer. Mark Sanford. The list goes on for the drunk-on-fame-and-power men who have cheated on their spouses affair raises the issue of marital infidelity again.
Although it seems Tiger was a straight dog, Sanford's is a bit more complicated.
Sanford didn't just have an affair he lingered with the other woman, dignifying her as someone "special" and a respite from his wife.
"This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."
Which side of the fence you fall on is crystal-clear for a lot of people, but what if it was Barack?
What if Obama cheated on Michelle, with an "other woman" hussy, or worse, a dear family friend? Would Michelle, the touchy feely one, be any less of a woman for staying there? Would she be able to maintain her "dignity and respect," if she left?

Offensive image of Michelle Obama is back

Thursday, December 10, 2009

An offensive image of First Lady Michelle Obama is back atop Google images as Dec 10. The image, which morphs Mrs. Obama's picture with that of a monkey, was removed by Google on Nov. 23 after criticism reached the company's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters.
Google issued an apology for the incident, saying, "We apologize if you've had an upsetting experience using Google." The company then went on to say that it would not only take down the image but ban the web site that posted it. "Sometimes our search results can be offensive. We agree."
But is Google over its head this time? Google surely can't keep up with its image inventory, based on the sheer size of the Web's operation. Billions of users can post billions of pictures. If a group of people with an ulterior motive--which is clearly the case here--wants to post insulting pics, Google will not be able to stop them all, and certainly not in a timely fashion.
As for the wife of the leader of the free world, they may have bigger issues.

N.Y. Girl with Leukemia to meet Obama

Wednesday, November 25, 2009

President Obama is putting China and Afghanistan on the back-burner to visit 6-year-old Jasmina Anema, a New York girl stricken with leukemia.
Anema, who has been featured in media across the country, was arranged by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
And she has some things she'd like to share with Obama.
"I hope we can talk about leukemia and how it changes the lives of children," Jasmina wrote.
"Maybe I can give you some advice to help children with cancer. I want us to make having cancer easier for children."
You go, girl.

Ethnic Wars: Does 'Black' Even Matter Anymore?

Saturday, September 5, 2009

with the January inauguration of President Obama, you'd think this "post-racialism" thing would cool off by now and normalcy would reign.
But racism, racemongering and racialism are all alive and kicking this year -- one would argue that from recent headlines this has been the most racial summer since the civil rights unrest of the 1960s.
Not only are we seeing the true colors of "progressives," "conservatives" and the like, but even African-Americans are acting out.
Four hundreds years after coming to this country, there is still a turbulent debate on what "black" even is.
Obama (and to a lesser extent Tiger Woods) has helped usher in a whole group of people who assign themselves to both black and white, or neither.
It's a great debate, but the question is does it even matter ... anymore?
What's black, what's not black, and who really cares?

Mrs. O's 'Mixed Feelings'

Sunday, August 16, 2009

First Lady Michelle Obama already had misgivings, and this was way before people came to her husband's rallies with semi-automatic weapons. One quote she said stands out, many of which were uttered even before she got in the White House:

"[W]hen Barack first told me he was thinking about running for President, I had mixed feelings. I worried about my girls and what a campaign might do to their lives. I wanted the best life possible for them, and a presidential campaign wasn’t part of that equation. But then I thought about it. And the world I want for them is a world where they’re paid fairly and equally for their work; where they don’t have to choose between kids and careers; where they can dream without limits without a glass ceiling standing in their way. And I realized that if that’s the world I want for them, then I had to do my part to elect someone like my husband."

Celebrity Style: Desiree Rogers

At a Hawaiian-themed luau on the White House lawn recently, presidential social maven Desiree Rogers gets it in on the crackberry in a springy ensemble.

If Barack had an affair, would Michelle stay?

Friday, June 26, 2009

The uproar over South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's affair raises the issue of marital infidelity again. But given the high profile of the case, and that the mistress in question was a longtime friend, many people have an opinion.
Especially about whether Mrs. Sanford, Jenny, as she's known, should stay or leave?
Sanford didn't just have an affair he lingered with the other woman, dignifying her as someone "special" and a respite from his wife.
"This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."
Which side of the fence you fall on is crystal-clear for a lot of people, but what if it was Barack?
What if Obama cheated on Michelle, with an "other woman" hussy, or worse, a dear family friend? Would Michelle be any less of a woman for staying there? Would she be able to maintain her "dignity and respect," if she left?

Desirée Rogers' Steez is Unstoppable

Monday, June 22, 2009

The President's Socialite-in-chief Desi Rogers is again behind the 8 ball by critics who say she's too flashy (she was wearing a top-of-the-line Vera Wang) in a down economy.
More surprising is that some of the fodder has come from the Obama camp.
When the Wall Street Journal was invited to the White House to interview Rogers it is understood that some White House cabinet members weren't too pleased when they saw the outfits that Rogers put on, outfits that they said "took away from the dignity of the White House."
In a much ballyhooed article, she was criticized for saying that she wanted to leverage "the Obama brand" which "the best brand on Earth." Ouch.
Right-wing pundits ran with it; liberal moderates politely winced, but that's Rogers.
Hailing from the New Orleans' Seventh Ward, Rogers knows how to get in where she fits in. It just so happens that a whole lot of people are mad-jealy.
Should Desi peg her outfits to what Michelle Obama is wearing that day, deliberately dressing down so as not to upstage the First Lady? What do you think?

The 'Black-Jewish' White House: Really?

Friday, May 29, 2009

An extraordinary alliance is being touted in some circles as it's been pointed out that the current makeup of the White House may usher in a long-lasting comraderie between blacks and Jews. The power-pusher has been identified as Mona Sutphen, a half-black, half-Jewish woman. And Obama's mother is Jewish, which makes him half-Jewish as well, some say. And? What of it?

100 Days of Fun (With Barack Obama)

Monday, May 18, 2009

Make no mistake about it: The man has been working his tail off. But don't think - for a moment - the Obamas haven't been having a good time.
As evidenced by the White House's release, on Flickr no less, of pics of the president's first 100 days in office, the Obamas are having the time of their lives.
They've partied with Stevie Wonder, broke bread with Oprah, had a Poetry Night at the White House, had comic books drawn of them, had churches openly court them for membership, had a national dog-shopping adventure, and Obama's slightly faded head has nary an added gray hair (I think.)

Michelle's toned arms have flailed in the wind, her smile has caressed the screens and magazine covers of countless people. And while her hair hasn't always kept up, she has remained inexhaustible, ever-approachable, lovable.

Obamamania Reaches, um, Climax

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

The unabashed marketing of all things Obama has reached the crass: Put we're sure it's a best-seller, the Obama dildo. The company's motto is "Now you can have stimulus, for real," no, just kidding, it's actually, "Vi-Vi-Vibration you can believe in," sorry, that's not true either, but I couldn't resist. Evidently neither can millions of people. Word is, this thing is a best-seller. So, would you let "O" give you an "O"?

GQ "Darkens" Obama on Cover

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Whoa.
Is that Barack Obama on the cover of the new GQ, or is it ... Bryant Gumbel? The Photoshop wizards over at GQ should have learned a lesson about artificially "darkening" people from the O.J. Simpson fiasco in the 1990s. To compound matters, this goes on top of the Beyonce "lightening" scandal earlier this year. Black people come in sooo many different hues, one can understand if due to lighting and such the images are off a little bit, but Obama is waaay more chocolate than he truly is in the GQ cover. Message to art director: Add a litte more vanilla, less mocha. Or perhaps they should stay away from the airbrush tool after all, or don't stop at Starbucks before heading into the office. Either way Obama's true complexion is fairer than most. Why is this so difficult? To be fair, this has happened to white men as well, most recently ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit earlier this autumn (which he demanded be redone). But seriously, we're not mad at GQ; they've got it right countless times before. Just remember, ease up on the airbrush.

On Nov. 4, the Red Pill or the Blue Pill?

Saturday, November 1, 2008

Voters are scheduled to go to the polls all day on Nov. 4 to elect the 44th president of the United States. Barack Obama, the first person of color to be nominated, and war veteran John McCain.
Obama has run on a broad platform of "change".
McCain has an increased fascination with plumbers.
Come Nov. 4, which will it be: the blue pill, or the red one? The terms, red state and blue state have come to mean the states that vote either Republican or Democrat. The term was first used by the late journalist Tim Russert, according to the Washington Post. A blue state leans toward the Democratic ticket; a red state leans toward the Republican ticket.
In the movie, "The Matrix" lead character Neo was offered a choice of the blue or red pill by patriarch, Morpheus. The red pill would answer the question "what is the Matrix?" (by removing him from it and subjecting him to the reality unbeheld) and the blue pill would be for life to carry on as before. As Neo reaches for the red pill Morpheus warns Neo "Remember, all I'm offering is the truth. Nothing more."
Do any of these candidates, deal in truth?
The pill analogy is quite appropriate, when you consider neither candidate can really do anything about social ills, inflation, crime, etc. They don't deal in preventative measures, only treatment of those ills i.e. medicine aka pills.

Police ID Body as Jennifer Hudson's Nephew

Monday, October 27, 2008

Police late Monday identified the body of Julian King, the 7-year-old nephew of actress-singer Jennifer Hudson. Police found the boy's body in a vehicle belonging to Hudson's slain brother, Jason, 29.
The body was discovered "in the rear seat" of a white Chevrolet Suburban on Chicago's West Side Monday morning, according to the Chicago Police Department. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds, according to reports.
Immediately following the news of the body's discovery, Hudson's family members – assuming the worst – organized a church vigil. Several family members visited the medical examiner's office Monday afternoon.
It's been 3 days, Friday, since Hudson's mother and brother were found shot to death in their home. The stepfather, who's face has been plastered on TV screens for more than 36 hours now, has not been charged and is being referred to by police as a "person of interest" in the killings.
On Sunday evening, Hudson appealed to the public for help, offering a $100,000 reward for her nephew's safe return.
"Jennifer and her family appreciate the enormous amount of love, support and prayers they have received while she and her family try to cope with this tragedy and continue the search for Julian," her publicist Lisa Kasteler aid in a statement.
Hudson, who won an Oscar for her role in "Dreamgirls," has long been coy about her family's personal life. Questions about why should let her mother continue to live on Chicago's South Side have dogged her in recent years.
Jennifer's sister looked to be of a different cloth than her sister. He emotional appeal, oddly without mention of the boy's stepfather, last weekend set off a vicious search for the boy. "Give me my baby back. That's all I ask," Julia Hudson said. "I know he's out there. Put him on the side of the street. Just let him go."
