Does Obama have a 'dark' side?

Sunday, May 16, 2010

At varying times during the debate over health care, and even while he was still running for office, President Obama has been depicted or called some of the most crazy names one can imagine.
From the anti-christ, to Satan himself, Obama has been labeled every single unsavory character in mankind's history. And the thing is, many of the name-callers have been people you'd expect better from: Doctors, lawyers, politicians, truck drivers, soldiers, teachers, etc.
Is there a ring of truth to any of this? I mean, this stuff can get pretty scary.
We all pretty much conceded that Bush I & II were in cahoots with Big Oil, and the bankers, but ...
Does Obama indeed have a "dark" side?
Congressmen labeled the health care reform as Socialist (even calling him and liar). There are many Youtube videos out there explaining how Obama has the number of the beast, or better yet, that he does in fact have the number (on his hand).
Is it true? About as true as him being a Muslim and being born out of the country.
But what would make a person resort to such elementary name-calling?
And if the shoe were on the other foot, would all this vitriol exist?
One has but to wonder how all this chaos and confusion came into play to begin with.

With Rogers out, will White House be as fun?

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Do know what it means to mix New Orleans ... with Chicago's flair and style? That's essentially what former White House Social Secretary Desiree Rogers -- who should be gone by Wednesday, the end (Ides) of March, was when she was tapped to run events at the president's Washington residence.
Desiree Rogers had the sensitivities that living and surviving in Chitown taught her; she was an entertainer and executive in her own right who knew her way around fortune 500 businesses. She was stylish. She was filet gumbo.
The White House had poetry readings, Earth, Wind and Fire concerts, Stevie Wonder. Now, we'll wait to see what kind of events Julianna Smoot (I got dibs on her nickname, J-Smoove) puts on, which i'm sure will be nice and proper.
But to be sure, the White House has lost something, I don't exactly know what though. Not to diss her replacement, Julianna Smoot, who apparently is a fund-raising titan (you can always use one of those), but she's from North Carolina. Again, I love N.C., but the social mixture that Rogers brought to the table will be hard to duplicate or even imitate.
Now, in Smoot's defense, I think she'll check credentials a bit closer and be more hands on than Rogers, but everybody makes mistakes, right?
Hopefully, Rogers can land in a role that takes advantage of her background as well as connections. She'll be alright. It's the rest of us I worry about.

Are they hotter than us?

Friday, March 19, 2010

All this talk about childhood obesity and health care has hidden perhaps a symptom of the American way of life: Our belief that we're hotter than anybody else on the planet.
I mean, sure some of them may sound cooler than us (Et tu, cute'?) but deep down we've always thought of ourselves as really good-looking folks.
But not if we keep eating like we're eating.
Actually it may already be too late. See, baby boomers were the last generation to raise their children on homecooked -- every Sunday -- family meals. The generation after that knew the cashier of McDonalds and Arby's on a first name basis. Waistlines have expanded accordingly. Now, even our first-graders have little pouches for stomachs that protrude while doing the most basic childhood exercises: running.
In Europe it's not much better, but it seems that it is, especially in Eastern Europe, where they make models (you realize they make 'em over there, right?).
Here's a good reason why you haven't heard the word "Eurotrash" in the last decade. Mainly because Ameritrash is getting much more obvious. Painfully so.

What if the Obamas were ghetto?

Thursday, February 4, 2010

Let's be honest: When you first first heard about Barack Obama, you had no idea the substance of the man. You didn't know he had come out of Harvard or Harlem. You didn't know if he was a lawyer or a layman. You didn't know that his wife was a professional executive in Chicago, rather than a stay at home mom with two tween daughters.
Now, when you found out that stuff out, regardless of the man's speaking ability and likeability, did it make a difference?
Because, if it did, what if the Obamas were hood? What if they were ghetto? Would you still support them? Would you still think they are the epitome of easy style?
What if Obama had a baby mama and did a short bid in college? Would it matter?
Now ask yourself, why?

Poll: Everybody Likes Michelle

Wednesday, January 20, 2010

Poll numbers schmoll numbers: Barack may be falling harder than a rock, but people think the world of Michelle, according to a new poll in the L.A. Times. That means former First Ladies Hillary Clinton and Barbara Bush evidently didn't have that twinkle in the eye that 'Chelle has displayed.
Sure, there has been hate, but Michelle has collectively given the naysayers the gas face -- and looked good in doing it.
How was she maintained such a positive image? She's simply remained herself, experts say. Meanwhile her husband has castigated Harvard cops for acting "stupidly," assailed Fox News and even called Kanye West "a jackass". Well, two outta three aint bad.

Best of 09: If all men are dogs, can Barack be trusted?

Monday, December 28, 2009

Tiger Woods. Steve McNair. Eliot Spitzer. Mark Sanford. The list goes on for the drunk-on-fame-and-power men who have cheated on their spouses affair raises the issue of marital infidelity again.
Although it seems Tiger was a straight dog, Sanford's is a bit more complicated.
Sanford didn't just have an affair he lingered with the other woman, dignifying her as someone "special" and a respite from his wife.
"This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."
Which side of the fence you fall on is crystal-clear for a lot of people, but what if it was Barack?
What if Obama cheated on Michelle, with an "other woman" hussy, or worse, a dear family friend? Would Michelle, the touchy feely one, be any less of a woman for staying there? Would she be able to maintain her "dignity and respect," if she left?

Offensive image of Michelle Obama is back

Thursday, December 10, 2009

An offensive image of First Lady Michelle Obama is back atop Google images as Dec 10. The image, which morphs Mrs. Obama's picture with that of a monkey, was removed by Google on Nov. 23 after criticism reached the company's Mountain View, Calif., headquarters.
Google issued an apology for the incident, saying, "We apologize if you've had an upsetting experience using Google." The company then went on to say that it would not only take down the image but ban the web site that posted it. "Sometimes our search results can be offensive. We agree."
But is Google over its head this time? Google surely can't keep up with its image inventory, based on the sheer size of the Web's operation. Billions of users can post billions of pictures. If a group of people with an ulterior motive--which is clearly the case here--wants to post insulting pics, Google will not be able to stop them all, and certainly not in a timely fashion.
As for the wife of the leader of the free world, they may have bigger issues.

Celebrity costumes for Halloween

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

Well it was a scary night for some celebrities, and we're not talking about the VMAs.
All Hallow's Eve brought out the demonic kid in more than just a few celebrities, including the First Couple. I think Michelle Obama was dressed as the
Southern University mascot, while Barack Obama came as
Mr. Rogers.

Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey: Schtick at Nite

Nick and MiMi both wore white, in contrast to their wedding day, but that's another story. Angels were the theme as Mr. Cannon kept his princess at his side the whole night, while Mariah rocked a halo above her head just in case onlookers didn't get the hint. (Meanwhile, the bodyguard did his best to look like
Young Jeezy).

Brangelina: Mr. and Mrs. Spliff

It's obvious that the ganja is having an effect on Brad Pitt; not only has he let himself go, but he chose to trick-or-treat with a glass of Henny in one hand, walking around looking like a construction barrel - talk about unimaginative costumes. Meanwhile wifey Angelina just looked bad. I dunno.

Kimora and Damon Hounsou: Give Us. Us Free

Kimora Lee Simmons and Damon Hounsou look like a walking episode of "Mash" with this medical get-up on. The couple knows a thing or two about playing doctor: A new baby was added to the family this year.

Beyonce and anon 'Catperson': Get it Girls

While Jay-Z was out reppin' New York, his wife Beyonce and an anonymous caped crusader were seen on the scene doing what they do best: Prowl. The dynamic duo played it kinda retro though: Beyonce was a fierce Spiderwoman (in his 1975 suit) while the other chick was a 1965 Catwoman.

Mrs. O's 'Mixed Feelings'

Sunday, August 16, 2009

First Lady Michelle Obama already had misgivings, and this was way before people came to her husband's rallies with semi-automatic weapons. One quote she said stands out, many of which were uttered even before she got in the White House:

"[W]hen Barack first told me he was thinking about running for President, I had mixed feelings. I worried about my girls and what a campaign might do to their lives. I wanted the best life possible for them, and a presidential campaign wasn’t part of that equation. But then I thought about it. And the world I want for them is a world where they’re paid fairly and equally for their work; where they don’t have to choose between kids and careers; where they can dream without limits without a glass ceiling standing in their way. And I realized that if that’s the world I want for them, then I had to do my part to elect someone like my husband."

Michelle's Progenitor: Phyicia RashadClaire Huxtable

Wednesday, July 29, 2009

No black woman, not Esther Rolle, not Hattie McDaniel, not Halle Berry, not anyone, has shaped popular culture's portrayal of the successful black woman like Claire Huxtable.
The power of "The Cosby Show" still lives on in the way Americans see First Lady Michelle Obama, a thoughtful mother and wife.
Claire's professional style, her motherful gaze, defied the prevailing stereotype at the time, that the black American woman was a weakling, a victimized mother that struggled to stay off the streets and frequently met the familiar hands of abuse.
Michelle has brought back everything that Claire stood for. But Michelle is real. Wow.

If Barack had an affair, would Michelle stay?

Friday, June 26, 2009

The uproar over South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford's affair raises the issue of marital infidelity again. But given the high profile of the case, and that the mistress in question was a longtime friend, many people have an opinion.
Especially about whether Mrs. Sanford, Jenny, as she's known, should stay or leave?
Sanford didn't just have an affair he lingered with the other woman, dignifying her as someone "special" and a respite from his wife.
"This was a whole lot more than a simple affair, this was a love story," Sanford said. "A forbidden one, a tragic one, but a love story at the end of the day."
Which side of the fence you fall on is crystal-clear for a lot of people, but what if it was Barack?
What if Obama cheated on Michelle, with an "other woman" hussy, or worse, a dear family friend? Would Michelle be any less of a woman for staying there? Would she be able to maintain her "dignity and respect," if she left?

Desirée Rogers' Steez is Unstoppable

Monday, June 22, 2009

The President's Socialite-in-chief Desi Rogers is again behind the 8 ball by critics who say she's too flashy (she was wearing a top-of-the-line Vera Wang) in a down economy.
More surprising is that some of the fodder has come from the Obama camp.
When the Wall Street Journal was invited to the White House to interview Rogers it is understood that some White House cabinet members weren't too pleased when they saw the outfits that Rogers put on, outfits that they said "took away from the dignity of the White House."
In a much ballyhooed article, she was criticized for saying that she wanted to leverage "the Obama brand" which "the best brand on Earth." Ouch.
Right-wing pundits ran with it; liberal moderates politely winced, but that's Rogers.
Hailing from the New Orleans' Seventh Ward, Rogers knows how to get in where she fits in. It just so happens that a whole lot of people are mad-jealy.
Should Desi peg her outfits to what Michelle Obama is wearing that day, deliberately dressing down so as not to upstage the First Lady? What do you think?

Michelle Obama likes to get "touchy"

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

The ever-loving First Lady Michelle Obama is mentioned in the latest Time Magazine that she likes to physically bond with children.
She gets "touchy with kids, because I think if I touch them and I hug them, that they'll see that it's real, and then they'll relax and breathe and actually kind of enjoy the time and make use of it," she said.

100 Days of Fun (With Barack Obama)

Monday, May 18, 2009

Make no mistake about it: The man has been working his tail off. But don't think - for a moment - the Obamas haven't been having a good time.
As evidenced by the White House's release, on Flickr no less, of pics of the president's first 100 days in office, the Obamas are having the time of their lives.
They've partied with Stevie Wonder, broke bread with Oprah, had a Poetry Night at the White House, had comic books drawn of them, had churches openly court them for membership, had a national dog-shopping adventure, and Obama's slightly faded head has nary an added gray hair (I think.)

Michelle's toned arms have flailed in the wind, her smile has caressed the screens and magazine covers of countless people. And while her hair hasn't always kept up, she has remained inexhaustible, ever-approachable, lovable.

Fashion Industry Holds onto Michelle Obama. For Life

Thursday, May 7, 2009

With the recession-depression hitting the world in the wallet, few industries have been unscathed. One hit particularly hard has been the fashion industry, both in the United States and abroad. But seemingly heaven-sent with chiseled arms on display and a svelte figure born for nice dresses, First Lady Michelle Obama has emerged (fashionably late) single-handedly picked up the fashion mantle for the U.S.: Anything she touches (or wears) turns to retail gold. Now the industry is falling over backward to be Michelle-related any way it can. Time Magazine has an interesting article on the phenomenom.

Alicia Keys Dresses Up as Michelle Obama

Friday, March 6, 2009

You know you're big when other celebrities dress up to be you. First Lady Michelle Obama has inspired yet another celebrity to play the part: Alicia Keys donned first lady attire, complete with two little girls, to pull off a nostalgic photoshoot of icons (which also features Paula Patton as Dorothy Holiday) for Glamour Magazine. Okay, Alicia, where's Barack?

Sculpted Arms Are In - And It's Freezing Outside

Thursday, March 5, 2009

Wouldn't you know it: Sleeveless shirts that show off shapely, cut arms are all the rage these days. Credit First Lady Michelle Obama, who's official White House portrait shows off her svelte figure and accentuates her arms. But she was'nt the first to do this, no, years ago, Angela Bassett showed the world what refined biceps and triceps looked like on a sister. And she's still got it.
Only problem is, it's cold as hell.

Irish Article Blames Working Women

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

There are in America as well as around the world, a class of businesswomen that make six figure incomes - as well as five figures - and live good, even lavishly. They have worked hard for it. They deserve it.
There are apparently alot of men that resent it.
In a controversial article gaining traction on the Web, working women are seen as the reason for the credit crunch.
The article states: "It would be ludicrous to suggest that women should be sacked purely to give men their jobs. In many cases, their jobs should be abolished as well.

Women are twice as likely as men to work in the public sector. They account for two-thirds of the Civil Service and three- quarters of all public employees."

This is the most ignorant thing I've heard in my life. And it goes in the Fail basket.

Obama Doll Scary As Mutha

Friday, January 23, 2009

I don't know, maybe it's my childhood coulrophbia (fear of clowns). Maybe it's just me, but this Obama doll is just too life-like. Anything that is fake but too realistic, just gives me the creeps. Plus, I keep thinking about the movie "Tales From the Hood," where they had this segment on "niglets" that kept running after this man.
I mean, if I walked outta my kitchen and saw something like this laying in the cut ... YEESH. Getting chills just thinking about it. Anyway, a Japanese company has made these dolls and evidently they are doing pretty well over there, so now they're gauging Americans' interest. I don't know, would you buy one for your son, daughter, niece, nephew?

Inauguration Whoring: It's Happening

Friday, January 16, 2009

Craigslisters in New York are going crazy trying to get to D.C. for the inauguration. Millionaire bachelors (and wannabees) are pulling out all the stops to make it a "date" trip. LOL. Would you go with a catering stranger?
