Jay-Z said no to 'We Are the World'

Tuesday, February 16, 2010

Quick-tongued rapper Jay-Z says he turned down the "We Are the World" remake because of a musical disagreement with the producers.
Quincy Jones and Lionel Ritchie personally invited Jay to rock out with the biggest names in music for the biggest cause in his lifetime: Earthquake-stricken Haiti.
Jay declined due to artistic reasons, according to media reports.
We Are the World is like Thriller to me. I don't ever wanna see it touched.

"I'm a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that's going on in Haiti."
Jay says it's not that he wanted to come off as snooty (but he still does). "So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but "We are the World" is untouchable like "Thriller" is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it's gonna be untouchable."
What? I'm sorry I don't agree. The people of Haiti need your help, and you cite reasons based on how good a song is? Com'on son. That's unreasonable.

The Rise of Dudes Wearing Wigs

Sunday, November 8, 2009

You thought it was just the girls with the weave?
So did I, but apparently, there is a burgeoning demand for hair pieces for men. It may come from the underrated market for men's hair due to male pattern baldness, but whatever it's sources. It's here to stay.
Now, don't get me wrong; men have been wearing wigs for years, but it's never been a huge market for young people. Now, it's growing Lfrom the retirement set down to young people.
But, you, what about you? Would you be cool with dating a man who wore a wig?

Prince had a house party, y'all

Tuesday, October 27, 2009

The high-heeled Purple One -- the baddest man alive know that the King of Pop is dead, yes, i'm talking about Prince, the one and only -- welcomed people into his home this past weekend for what surely was a surprise as the bitter cold starts to envelope the Twin Cities.
Prince had a little free concert at his Paisley Park studios/home to bring attention to something we all need to be talking about: The needy.
The admission price was only canned goods and new and/or gently-used coats and winter clothes. NO word on how many attended, but it was a loving gesture, considering the economic mess going on these days. Sign O the Times?

Why Hasn't He Said Something?

Friday, July 3, 2009

His Royal Badness, Prince Rogers Nelson has said nary a word on the passing of his musical rival, Michael Jackson.
Not that he's supposed to, but generally two masters in the same arena acknowledge each other in death, if not in life.
The two geniuses were musical opposites in their hey day, pushing each other to new creative heights.
"Thriller" was met by "Purple Rain."
"Bad" was countered with "Sign O the Times."
Prince was the do-it-all musician was Michael was the consummate performer.
You could be in both camps but you couldn't love both of them the same.
That's just how it was.
Now that one is no longer with us, the other's absence is stark.

Quincy Jones: MJ 'obviously didn't want to be black'

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Music impresario and MJ protege Quincy Jones had a sometimes sad, sometimes funny, but totally no-holds-barred interview in Menstyle where he takes the kid gloves off about Michael Jackson.
Some gems:
On the weird ways of MJ in the studio.
Muscles (Michael's boa constrictor) used to wrap around my leg in a record session and crawl across the console. I was never comfortable with that. It was a choice between that and Bubbles—you know, the chimp."

On Michael's inability to grow up and Quincy's giving him the song "She's Out of My Life," a 'grown-up' song, to sing on the "Off the Wall" album:
"I just wanted to hear him deal with a romantic relationship with a human being rather than a rat. I'm saying that facetiously, but it's true. I saw him at the Oscars very emotional about "Ben." I wanted to hear him get in touch with a real human relationship. "She's Out of My Life" was written by Tommy Bahler from a very bad ending to a marriage. So it was very real. I was saving it for Sinatra. But I gave it to Michael. And Michael cried during every take, and I left the tears in."

Queen Latifah: 'God bless Farrah Fawcett, she was my fave'

Wednesday, July 1, 2009

Queen Latifah sat down with the Los Angeles Times in an interview over the weekend and dropped science about Farrah, MJ and even Flavor Unit.
Here are some gems:
"Michael just -- there'll never be anyone like him. He just introduced us to the world, just an international megastar. And a heart of gold. And just, you know, brought attention to things going on around the world and to being an African American man."

On her movie career:
" I would love to eventually have our own studio. A real studio to produce films, television, whatever it is we like to do. To be a self-contained company, like a Tyler Perry, I suppose. You write it, you shoot it, you market it, you license it.?

Janet: Hottest 42-year-old on the Planet?

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

In this day and age, 42 is not old.
Even though we have grandmothers that are 35.
Even though we have teenagers that look 50 years old.
But Damita Jo is in a different category.
This woman, born of Joseph and Kathryn Jackson, is ageless.
What does Janet have that Oprah, queen of self-help and exercise, doesn't?
What secret antidote does Ms. Jackson consume that has her skin golden as an apple in the sun?
Is it Jermaine? No, she was hot way before they met.
It's not just Janet, but her other siblings too, especially the women, have amazing skin and look have their age.
What is it?
