Celebrity style: Thandie Newton

Thursday, March 18, 2010

How many actresses do you know have studied archaeology and anthropology in college?
How many of them can claim to be of royalty?
How many can say they named their daughter after the lead character in an alien film?
Thandie (/TAN-dee/) can.
Born to a Zimbabwean mother and English father, actress Thandie Newton grew up straddling two worlds. She claims her mother is from the reknown Shona tribe in Africa, and that she is a princess.
That makes Thandie royalty.
She has two daughters, Ripley and Nico, born of her marriage of 12 years to English producer Ol Parker.
One of her more interesting quotes from a while back was when she disclosed that she was gay as a teenager.
"We're all potentially bisexual," she told the Advocate. "It all depends on your circle, your upbringing and all kinds of things. Or maybe I'm just talking about myself. I could've easily fallen in love with a woman over a man."
That husband of hers just doesn't know how dramatically different his life almost was.

Why Interracial Love is an Epic Win

Monday, November 30, 2009

The stigma of race has followed many us through all the corridors of society: Work, home at church, etc. Despite the progress some have made with interracial relationships, there are others that reject it with utter disgust.
Is interracial love a betrayal of one's self and ethnicity?
Some say nblack men that sleep with white wome do it for status or to get a "trophy wife." Some even view landing a white woman as a coup de gras business move that will help them be accepted among the upper echelon businessmen.
Some men see a sister dating a white man as a stab in the back, an abandonment. (note: These are the same men that don't want them though.)
They say it is further degradation of the black family.
Well, is it?
It's a known fact that there are more "available" black women out here than "eligible" black men. Unless polygamy comes back, the numbers simply won't work.
As for the black men who go for white women, do the reasons even matter anymore? Sure, there could have been ulterior motives, but who's business is it?
Is there a feasible argument for "staying in one's race" when it comes to love?
Interracial love is in fact an epic win for everybody. It could never be epic fail, or even a slight fail.
After all, "Love never fails." - 1 Corinthians 13:8

Are White Guys Getting It In?

Thursday, September 10, 2009

It is obvious that love -- that odorless, colorless, many splendored thing -- has never had a color, never had a preference other than its own reciprocation.
While human prejudices and orientations dictated who coupled with who, societal standards have finally caught up with the heart's desires.
Black women, long complaining about the scarcity of eligible brothers on the scene, are being pleasantly surprised by the caucasian attention being brought there way.
There may be racism in the world, but when the lights are off, everybody's black.
White and black. Black and brown. Brown and yellow, etc. But if American cities are any indication, the biggest beneficiaries to the love being spreaded around these days is the white guy.
When it comes to the dating game, white guys are getting it in these days.
Ahem, I said white guys are getting it in these days (slow clap).

Are Black Women Genetically Shaped Different Than White Women?

Thursday, November 13, 2008

We see the shapes in all the magazines and on TV, but is it true? Are black bodies genetically different from white bodies? And if so, are Hispanic bodies genetically different than the others as well? This is relevant because in theory this would explain certain physical accomplishments that one group has achieved that another hasn't. This in no way would mean that one is superior to the other, though. Obviously everyone is anatomically the same, but genetically their are some differences.
A controversial study popularized by Fox News earlier this year claimed that Europeans had many more possibly harmful mutations than did Africans, and that it explained an advantage than one group supposedly had over another. I wouldn't go that far. My point is simply that people, races included, are different. That is cause for celebration, really, I mean the human stock is wonderfully diverse.
