Tyra Loves Booty

Friday, March 26, 2010

Aaah, Tyra Banks must be a black man. Why? Because she seems to love a big booty just like one. Doesn't matter if it's hers, a man's or a womans.
Tyra is a grabber, too.
This revelation is not new to anyone who watches her top-rated show, but I don't watch it so I usually get my fill from "Talk Soup" or commercials.
But does Tyra want to promote big bootiness to all her fans? Do people want a donk or is a regular one quite okay?
Tyra promotes the donk. Despite the fact that 90% of her target audience shrieks in terror at the thought of owning a true glutus maximus.
And who better than Buffie "The Body," who has actually put in unknown manhours to achieve that back end, to appear to Tyra's show.
She says, and I quote: "The girls with the hips and the booty were the popular girls at school. ... I don't like being skinny." So she went to the booty doctor. "He gave me a list of foods that was high in calories .. i went from like 119 [lbs] to 170 now." Really? (Cue the wide-eyed excitement).
Does Buffie expect us to believe that she got all that from spinach?

Book illustrates 'Lil Oprah'

Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Humble beginnings from the richest woman in entertainment led a New York artist to draw a whole book about her.
London Ladd's latest tome is called "Oprah the Littler Speaker" and describes the multimillionaire media queen's early life in the backwoods of the Crooked Letter.
While he didn't have pictures of Oprah as a child, Ladd said he used his 5-year-old godchild as a model.
While Oprah has some competition as America's top TV maven, Ladd already threw somebody more famous.
Ladd, who's also drawn Martin Luther King Jr., said Oprah was this generation's miracle worker.
"She's like Midas," he told the Syracuse.com. But I can relate to her story. It's about simple, humble beginnings."
No, Mr. Ladd, you're like Midas.

Is Everybody a Model Now?

Monday, March 1, 2010

Just a few short years ago you had to actually be working for a talent agency to be considered a model. I mean, you had to actually have face shots, and in most cases, a real, live, walking, talking agent.
But along came Myspace, Facebook, Bebo, Black Planet, and Xango, or whatever.
"Models" exploded out of the woodwork. Their credits were simply club shots that somebody took of them with a group of people on the dance floor. Some simply bought a new bikini, a lace front and slapped it on the Internet -- POW -- a model, just like that.
I mean, what would Tyra Banks say?
Now, don't get me wrong a person can choose to make a living or be as entrepreneurial as their work ethic allows, but com'on. All of a sudden the Internet is filled with fiddyleven models?
And the only pose they know? The booty pose, that's it.
Is it me, or can anybody be a model nowadays?

Weave: Why it will never die

Wednesday, February 3, 2010

People have been all over weave as of late, from Tyra Banks declaring a 'Real Hair Day' to Chris Rock's Good Hair" myopic biopic on lye, stop it. Weave is wonderful, though.
How else can a person with 1-centimeter follicles enter a building and emerge a few hours later with HTB (hair-touch-butt) syndrome?

Bria Murphy: Eddie's little girl a model chick

Monday, December 7, 2009

When your father is the biggest comedian of the past quarter century, and her uncle is "Chollie" Murphy, it probably would have been kind of hard to keep a straight face growing up.
But Bria Murphy, the 19-year-old first born of Eddie and Nicole Murphy, has mastered a straight face and level head.
Bria is starting to catch the eye of the entertainment business elite as she's appeared on "America's Next Top Model" and appeared in a few videos, including Gucci Mane's "Spotlight" video. She's also been linked to R&B singer Pleasure P. But who is Bria Murphy?

Murphy grew up in Long Island, along with other siblings and mother Nicole. In 2006, Nicole and Eddie's divorce was finalized. Eddie subsequently began dating former Spice Girl Mel B (with which he had a child) while Nicole began seeing former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan.
Bria, meanwhile, has taken all this in and decided to forge a path for herself in Hollywood, where her father has a residence.
While there is no word on future projects Bria has on tap, there's no doubt we'll be seeing quite a bit of her in the near future.

Rihanna: I Miss Chris

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Prepping for a new album and trying to focus on her music, Rihanna, in an interview published in The Sun, says she when she hears ex-boyfriend Chris Brown's music she won't turn it off, rather, just the opposite. "I don't snub or turn it off; I listen. I like his music."
When asked if she missed the "I Can Transform Ya" star, RiRi replied: "Sometimes. Actually, yes."
That's not to say she'll get back together with him, but, she says, "There are a lot of reminders, like a lot of hotel rooms, a lot of places we've been to together, music.
Truth is, if RiRi did get back with him, the backlash would be brutal and final: Not only would Tyra Banks, the record-buying public, and Jay-Z, her mentor, bail on her, but "The Big O" would act a fool.
And for her career, that would truly be Russian Roulette.

Hey Tyra, Meat us Half-Way

Thursday, November 12, 2009

In the wake of a nmodel's Photoshop disaster from clothier Ralph Laure last month, there's only one way to stop young girls who aspire to be models from trying to look anorexic: Tyra Banks must gorge herself on a whole rump roast on her show.
Banks, who's known to stand her ground when it comes to the hefty-weight issue, should allow herself to be chained to a dinner table, handcuffed to a chair and some choice, black angus should be placed before her.
At the beginning of the show, they should weigh her; at the end of the show they should her.
Girls will then be able to see a "model chick" eating and enjoying a meal without them feeling there's something wrong with it.
Who's with me?

TV's top prime female: Tyra is No. 1

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

First of all, we can't count Oprah Winfrey, because her show is not considered "primetime." If it did, then this wouldn't even be close.
But Tyra Banks is the No. 1 earner among women on primetime TV, according to Forbes.
While there are other aspiring media moguls out there, none of them have pulled it together across such a broad spectrum as T. Banks.
Tyra, who has become a poster child for fake hair and real shapes among women, pulls in $30 million for her talk show, endorsements, and of course ANTM. She was followed by Katherine Heigl, who pulled in $18 million. Check out the top woman earners list and see if you're on there (wink).

Tyra for Halloween: Pepa???

Tyra Banks, illustrating her addiction to all kinds of wigs, called herself trying to dress up for Halloween as Kim Kardashian this week. The only problem is that she inadvertently pulled a dead ringer for Pepa of Salt and Pepa.
To call the similarities stunning would be an understatement. I halfway expected Tyra to go into full "Push It" mode ("You really got me goin. You got me Go-in."

'Good Hair': Is Chris Rock's Wife Unbeweavable?

Monday, October 12, 2009

As the audiences hee and haw at Chris Rock's "Good Hair," a look inside the hairstory of black women, many are taking aim at someone on the sidelines: Chris Rock's wife.
Malaak Compton-Rock has been scrutinized heavily (and that's putting it nicely) since her husband's film came out. She's notably absent from the documentary, many say, and it's because she wears exactly what Rock makes fun of in the film: A weave.

Comments range from: L"I didn't know his wife had 'good hair.'

Others say: "His daughters don't like their hair because their own Mamma is sporting weave and a perm..."

The posts can get pretty brutal.

I say give the woman a break. It's not her documentary, it's her husband's, and he's a comedian.

P.S: Ashanti's hair looks mighty "good," too, don't it?

Is 'Supermodel' Just a Word Now?

Tuesday, October 6, 2009

Tell me if you recognize the name: Daiane Conterato. Isabeli Fontana. Okay, Liya Kebede. Or Anna Gushina. How about Bette Franken? Behati Prinsloo?
I know, I know, one name -- at best -- sounded familiar to you, right? That's because the women gracing the catalogue covers and actually doing the catwalking or basically no-names these days.
Gone are the days when you actually knew the top model in the world.
The Internet has changed things: Now models are born every second. For every 19-year-old discovered walking the streets in Iceland, there's some big-boned chick from Sweetwater, Mississippi posting pics online proclaiming herself a "model".
So, what's that mean? It means, among other things, that the dream that Tyra Banks is selling ("You can become America's Next Top Model") is pretty much a facade.
Nowadays you're just as likely to see a Flavor of Love girl on the cover of a magazine than you are one of those pencil-thin girls from any ANTM season.
Are there any true 'Supermodels' left?

The Visible Lover Phenomenon: Hearting Amber Rose

Thursday, June 18, 2009

You'd be hard-pressed to find a celebrity hotter than Amber Rose right now.
Usher, yeah, he's pretty hot right now, due to his filing for divorce, but that's falling by the wayside.
RiRi? She's falling back down to normalcy now, a 6 on our 10-point attention barometer.
Madonna? Old news?
But Amber Rose, famous for ... exactly what again? I mean what did she have something, anything going on that would thrust her into the national spotlight?
Quite like this?
(Crickets)
Right, that's the point. I mean, we heart her with her buzzcut and all. But she's simply the Visible Lover of Kanye West, the most highly public, attention-loving, grandoise entertainer alive today.

Why is Amber Rose famous? Call it the V.L.P: Visible Lover Phenomenon.
People just love to know who celebrities are sleeping with.
There have been other VLPs: Stedman Graham comes to mind; Pharrell used to sport "Vashtie" everywhere he went a few years ago. But England follows them way more than the States.
But celebrities no doubt should be able to do what they want, but lovers should also be able to decide if they want to be apart of the VLP as well.
In the NBA, many don't.
But VLP is a blessing and curse, just ask other celebrities.
The only thing they have in the end ... is a VH1 reality show.

Tyra Banks' Stalker Won't Get Jailtime

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

While the movie "Obsession" plays nationwide featuring a married couple with a third-wheel woman who gets too close, talk show host Tyra Banks was living the scene in a surreal reality.
A judge convicted Brady Green of having an "unhealthy obsession" with the former supermodel and banned the Georgia man from New York City.
"Put Mr. Green in a location where he can thrive," the judge said to the defendant's lawyer. "And that is not likely to be the city of New York."
Word is Green also has a jones for Montel Williams, Geraldo Rivera and Oprah Winfrey. That's scary.
Hah, and y'all thought Twitter was harmless. (speaking of harmless, peep A.J. formerly of "106 & Park" in the background.

Before Tyra, There Was Veronica

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

After Oprah, but before Tyra, there was the Webb.
Veronica Webb.
The supermodel, journalist, author and TV personality seemingly had it all going for her and was the "it" girl in the late 1990s. The World Wide Web was just getting its legs back then, the air was pregnant with possibilities and the tall, slender Webb was connected with both New York's and Hollywood's elite. At her height she had a segment on "Good Morning America," was a contributing writer to the New York Times magazine and discarded photographers that sought photoshoots of her in lingerie.
Then she was discarded.
Webb, the first African-American to have a major cosmetics contract (with Revlon, preceeding Halle Berry and Beyonce), saw her opportunities as a writer and journalist much more than as a TV host or spokeswoman. She gravitated to the small boutiques and independent scene. It took her away from the huge budgets of Hollywood but put her in alliance with the smaller more grass-roots movements of the day.

Today, except for a brief turn as co-host of "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style" on Bravo (where she was unceremoniously let go), Webb is content doing smallish events to turn people's attention away from the bubble-gum-wars of pop culture. Things like
Lingerie Miami
.
Hey, brains and beauty last forever. Can't knock the hustle, till you know the hustle.

'Real Shapes': Are THEY Keeping it Real?

Friday, January 16, 2009

There is a subtle but growing backlash in the fashion world over the "Loose 2" theory among female models (It is said that a woman model with any chance of being taken seriously in fashion needs to be a "loose 2" dress size.)
The fashion world has reacted by coming out with rules governing weight loss in hopes of detracting attention from a worsening public image and the message it sends to young girls.
But the music industry continues to perpetrate the myth that thin is in: Album covers feature idealized stars that have no hopes of looking like they do in promotional materials yet the image is plastered everywhere. The fact is that, in an age of "keeping it real" these artists - and by extension their music - dwell in unreality.
Now this is a separate issue from ,photoretouching (if you go to this link, mouse over the image) which is practiced by media outlets everywhere (here's another one). I'm specifically talking about models' bodies here.
A "real beauty" campaign by Dove last year featured ads with real women with real body shapes and did much to counter the message that skinny chicks get the models.
It is said that Tyra Banks, who is packing on the pounds, is being ordered to lose weight for "America's Next Top Model". What is incredible about that, is that ANTM is her OWN SHOW! Will she cower to the TV executives and try to lose weight, or will she stand up and show off her real "bootylicous {her words}" beauty? So far she has compromised by executives only allowing the top half of her body to be shown, since the lower half is obviously not in line with "ANTM" ideals. But why should she have to hide her body? What do you think?
