Rise of the Interracial Power Couple

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

There are a host of
super-wealthy power couples that straddle the fences of culture, class and race. See if you know these celebrities and their partners.

David Bowie and Iman

In 1992, when singer David Bowie married Somalia-born supermodel Iman they both were at the same point in their careers. Bowie had survived two decades of drug-fueled glam rock bisexuality and Iman was descending from a crest of being the most beautiful girl in the fashion world (fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent once remarked that Iman was "my dream woman".) Their second marriage for both, Iman and Bowie had a daughter Alexandria Zahra "Lexi" Jones. The two continue to look beautiful together and aside from fashion ventures, they engage in humanitarian work. A modern love, indeed.

Bill Cohen and Janet Langhart-Cohen

Bill Cohen, former Congressman and Secretary of Defense in the Clinton administration, and former model, TV personality and author Janet Langhart had become mutual admirers in the mid-1970s but both were married. They rekindled their friendship and love in the mid-1990s. She was raised in the Indianapolis housing projects and later became president and CEO of Langhart Communications. In the 1990s, she was known as "First Lady of the Pentagon" for her hospitable nature. The Cohens have just released a book together, called, ""Love in Black and White.

Matt and Angela Stone

Matt Stone, a Canadian with Jewish-Irish ancestry, is a jack of many entertainment trades: animator, screenwriter, director, voice artist, musician, and actor. He is most prominently known as the co-creator of "South Park," one of the biggest mature cartoons in television history. The show originally stemmed from a skit called "Jesus vs. Frosty." His nubian queen is Angela Stone-Howard.

Barbara Feltus and Lapo Elkann

The British press seems to love these two: Lapo Elkann is heir to the Agnelli and Fiat cars fortune. Barbara Feltus is the ex-wife to tennis great Boris Becker.
Becker and Babs were a hot item in Europe in the 1990s, until she was contacted by a woman claiming to be pregnant with Becker's child. At which point she took the kids at fled to Miami, setting off an international custody battle that ended in 2001. Now she's back with the Italian Elkann, 11 years her junior. Elkann, besides being super-wealthy, made headlines in 2005 after a drug overdose with some transvestites. Ouch.

Prince Max and Princess Angela of Liechtenstein

Before she was Princess Angela, she was Angela Gisele Brown, a graduate from the prestigious Parson School of Design and fashion designer. The Panamanian-born Brown met Maxilmilian in New York at a reception and became friends. In addition to being royalty he manages the JP Morgan brand in Liechtenstein, which is a small state between Austria and Switzlerland.

Robert Deniro and Grace Hightower

Everybody knows Robert Deniro likes him some chocolate. What we don't know is the story on Grace Hightower. The couple were estanged for a few year until reconciling in 2003. They've since been going strong, living in the Upper Westside of NYC in a duplex reportedly worth $12 million. Of course that's before the recession-depression, now they may be able to get $500,000.

Noah Tepperberg and Denise Vasi

Nightlife impresario Noah Tepperberg is at one hour or another the most important person in New York City and Los Angeles. As owner of several posh nightclubs, including the Marquee in NYC, he parties with celebrities. Denise Vasi is a model/actress best known for the daytime soap "All My Children."
Tepperberg, a former New York City teenage chess champion, started a small party-promotion business with a friend and now they own a powerful marketing, entertainment, and branding company that holds sway over all things glamorous.

Gabriel Aubry and Halle Berry

Gabriel Aubry, 31, is a Canadian model who first came into the fashion industry in the late 90s. Remember when the fashion world was in an uproar over boys and their genital marks showing in underwear? Well, Gabriel's pics were the main offenders.
He has modeled for Tommy Hilfiger, Gianni Versace, Calvin Klein, DKNY, and Hugo Boss, with a pay rate of $30,000 a day. Oh, his girlfriend? Some chick 10 years his senior named Halle Berry.
